2014 is going to be an important year for IT@UT. Here some major IT initiatives to watch this year:
- Implementation of Workday. Workday is a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solution which will replace the current administrative system (*DEFINE) and realize the primary goal of the Administrative Systems Master Plan. The selection of the external implementation partner in in process, after which we will refine the timeline. Stay tuned for more Workday updates.
- Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Deployment. The goal of the VoIP project is to convert more than 20,000 phone lines from the Universitys copper-based telephone system to a newer, more affordable, and easier to maintain VoIP technology system. To date, over 3,500 phone lines have been successfully converted (and many unused lines disconnected) in Wave 1 buildings. Wave 2 of the VoIP deployment project is on target to be completed in the first half of 2014. Waves 3 and 4 follow and campus-wide completion is set for spring 2015.
- New UTLogin. UTLogin replaces the current EID authentication system with a completely new, updated technical infrastructure. Implementation of the new UTLogin system is currently underway, with campus systems transitioning in a phased approach. The transition will include the migration of UT Direct to UTLogin in June 2014. Campus will experience a new look-and-feel for the login page with improved security. Other benefits include elimination of the post-login pop-up window, concurrent authentication for all applications using UTLogin, an inactivity timeout period of one hour as opposed to the current 30 minutes, and the ability to roam campus without having to re-authenticate when moving between buildings. All policies regarding UT EIDs will remain the same.
- UT Web Infrastructure Refresh. UT Web is designed to support UT Austins next generation Web hosting needs. With completion of the UT Web detailed design, and proof-of-concept underway, the UT Web Refresh project is on track to meet the mid-2014 target date for availability. Currently, the project team is conducting a series of on-site, focused meetings with colleges, schools and units interested in taking advantage of this new Web Central technical environment.
Updated information will be provided on these projects throughout the year.
