There is good news for faculty, staff, and students who use the UT-branded version of Box cloud storage–UTBox–for their business and academic file sharing needs. Box is currently releasing improvements to the web application including faster performance and a more intuitive look and feel design. UTBox, which is centrally funded by ITS, offers two Terabytes of storage for faculty and staff and 150 Gigabytes for students. Research groups and teams can obtain group accounts with unlimited storage quotas. UTBox provides a secure way to share files across campus and across institutions, enabling collaboration on documents, safe storage of confidential data , and easy synching of files between all devices. UTBox is the FERPA and HIPAA certified enterprise storage solution for campus.
The service averages approximately 4,500 unique faculty/staff interactions each day. Since UTBox was launched in 2012, the growth of the service has been impressive. The total number of current subscribers has risen to a total of 31,525 campus-wide. Since the end of 2014, the total storage consumption has grown to 155 Terabytes, a 158% increase.
