The 133rd University-wide Commencement Ceremony will be conducted this Saturday, May 21, 2016. For the Class of 2016 and graduate students receiving their advanced degrees, family, friends, faculty and others, the weekend will be one of celebration, recognition, and Hook em Horns pride. Two days of individual recognition in college and school convocations culminate when all disciplines come together for the evening ceremony on the plaza in front of the Main Building and beneath the Tower. Information Technology Services (ITS) especially thanks and congratulates graduating ITS student workers and interns who are moving on to Teach America, medical school, and many other exciting opportunities.
The Class of 2016 is already being recognized for pushing boundaries, excelling in the classroom and forging new paths. With 8,092 entering students, they were the largest entering UT Austin freshman class ever. The class represents 124 countries, all 50 states, and every county in Texas, coming together as one class #UT16.
When they joined our world-class university – ranked No. 25 Research University in the world, No. 7 in U.S. among public universities, and No. 16 in U.S. among all universities the Class of 2016 embraced an impressive array of opportunities to learn, grow, and excel. With 170+ fields of undergraduate study, 18 colleges and schools, and 223 graduate programs, these students leave the University well equipped to distinguish themselves, achieve their dreams, and contribute to the advancement of society. After graduation, they join an amazing alumnae network of 482,000 Texas Exes.
Sara Martinez Tucker , a member of The University of Texas System Board of Regents who also serves on the Boards of Directors of American Electric Power, Sprint and Xerox is this years Commencement Speaker. She previously served as CEO of the National Math + Science Initiative, an organization focused on improving student performance in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). ITS joins the Class of 2016 in welcoming her as this years commencement speaker.
Behind the scenes, ITS staff will play a key role this weekend in meeting the needs of the campus community during the festivities by providing audio-visual support for 8 departmental convocations and live streaming video for 7 convocations and the main Commencement, plus providing video overflow in 11 venues, additional wireless access, more security cameras, and support for remote viewing, the media, and receptions. All the lighting and sound contractors for the university-wide ceremony will be orchestrated by ITS staff. Thanks to all ITS staff supporting these great events! Commencement wouldnt be Commencement without your skills and dedication.
