UTBackup Cloud Project

The UTBackup Cloud Project has completed the adoption of all end-points on premise. Current efforts by the project team have been focused on auditing the adoption process and reporting on adoption adhearance to campus technical support contacts. The project will next be working on the implimentation of stale device policies to take effect in September. 

UTBackup is Code42's end-point backup service provided centrally to the University. The UTBackup Cloud Project will deliver the UTBackup service on a cloud platform. This project includes refining the current standards for stale device management with support from the Information Security Office and Records Retention Policy. On-premise UTBackup will reach end of term and support on September 1st of 2019. ITS must transition nearly 9,000 user accounts to the Code42 cloud-based backup solution before that date. Code42’s cloud solution will improve the universities backup stature through greater geo-location and off-site backups.

Goals

The completed UT Backup project will be considered successful by meeting the following criteria: 

  • All active endpoints will have adopted the UTBackup cloud destination. Backups will be running in parallel to the Code42 Cloud and on-premise destinations throughout the duration of the project.  

  • All deployment documentation has been created, reviewed and approved.

  • All operational documentation, including MOU and SLA documentation has been created, reviewed and approved, including standards for device management.  

  • The project team has communicated the new standards for stale device management with technical support contracts.

Timeline

ITS Systems will begin forcing adoption of the cloud destination beginning in Feburary of 2019 with work concluding by September 1st, 2019.
