Progress with the campus-wide adoption of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) is outstanding. In collaboration with The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Information Technology Services (ITS) is helping faculty complete the transition to Canvas in anticipation of the retirement of Blackboard this summer. (Of the roughly 3,000 instructors using an LMS, only 222 courses are using Blackboard this semester.)
Beginning May 1, 2015, all new courses will be created in Canvas. There are numerous support options available for those who still need to transition from Blackboard to Canvas: online tutorials, 24/7 Canvas support (via phone/email/chat), workshops, one-on-one consultations and assistance in transferring course content. For more support information, please visit http://canvas.utexas.edu/help .
Faculty who want help to transition their content should sign-up soon for support. Please encourage anyone who would like staff support to migrate courses to submit their requests at http://canvas.utexas.edu/support-services . If requests are submitted prior to April 15, 2015, it should take up to four weeks to complete the transition. Requests submitted after April 15, 2015 will take up to eight weeks to complete, due to reduced staffing levels in the summer.
On Friday, April 24, 2015, the inaugural Spring Into Canvas: Instructor Poster Session will be held in the Student Activity Center Ballroom South (SAC 2.412) from 10 a.m. 1:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity for faculty, staff, GAs, and TAs to learn more about Canvas and see how faculty members are using Canvas to enhance teaching and learning in their courses. Visit the event page to learn more and to RSVP (optional and appreciated). It promises to be an interesting and informative event. Please visit http://canvas.utexas.edu for more details.
