At last weeks Information Technology Services (ITS)/Office of Telecommunication Services (OTS)/Information Security Office (ISO) All Staff Meeting, the group heard about the great progress made toward accomplishing IT governance priorities for FY 2014-2015, reviewed IT Strategic Priorities for FY 2015-2016, discussed individual achievements during the past 12 months and reviewed our priorities going forward.

Darrell Bazzell, UT Austins new Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, opened the meeting. He is taking time to get to know this special place and was very impressed by ITS Core Values: Deliver High Quality Services Foster Customer Partnerships; Establish Understanding, Trust, and Accountability; Make Data Driven, Innovative, Customer Focused Decisions; Facilitate Collaboration, Cooperation, and Communication; and our Prime Directive: Family First!

During the interactive portion of the meeting, staff identified Challenges & Accomplishments as well as Goals & Achievements. Here is a brief summary:

Challenges  Finances and staffing; growth in services; turnover; training; integrating Dell Medical School including HIPAA compliance; research computing initiative; organizational changes emotional responses; Administrative Systems Modernization Program (ASMP) juggling with normal duties; Dell Medical School staffing-up.

Accomplishments Stabilizing new and expanding services; meet staffing and skill set challenges; purchasing especially within ASMP; and the establishment of Architectural Review Board.

The assembled group also reviewed the Summary Status of IT Governance from 2015, noting that two major two-year long projects Complete VoIP Deployment and Complete Canvas Learning Management System Transition were finished on time last September and very close to the planned budget.

This 2016 fiscal year, campus-wide IT Governance Priorities include: Oversee the ASMP 2.0, Implement the Technical Architecture for the Administrative Systems Modernization Program, Enhance the Research Computing Infrastructure, Build Digital Asset Management Core System, Determine the Building Security System Replacement Approach, Campus Network Enhancements, Systems Management and Remote Support, Research and Educational Technology Policy Review, and Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Excellence in Business Information Products and Services.

In keeping with the positive spirit from the meeting, Kudos to Olu Kole-James, Virtualization Specialist, ITS Systems, on winning his business case competition with Texas Venture Labs last weekend. This is a big deal. 25 teams entered the competition and his team came out on top. As part of the winning team he is being flown to NYC to ring the closing bell at the NASDAQ!

Way to go Olu. You and your team make UT Austin proud!
